Boost in engagement through employee recognition

Studies show that the simple act of expressing gratitude has a ripple effect, affecting not only the grateful person and the recipient, but anyone who witnesses it. Introduce this chain reaction on a grand scale, and the effects become exponential.

We applied this “science of thanks” to engage employees and attract talent for King’s College National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust, one of the busiest NHS trusts in the UK.

We developed a larger-than-life employee engagement campaign that would recognize employees, capture the attention of candidates, and showcase the Trust’s values.

We captured images of 166 clinical and non-clinical staff members at all King‘s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust sites and collected 350 employee-submitted messages of thanks. Then, we plastered large-scale installations across Kings’ three main sites, including a huge projection onto the outside of the hospital at their central location.

The campaign inspired renewed feelings of inclusion and engagement among staff and there was a sharp increase in recognition.

In addition to the employee engagement benefits, campaign assets were leveraged on a custom careers portal and in targeted recruitment marketing campaigns, generating a brilliant, diverse talent pool to provide outstanding care and continued innovation for King’s.
